BNC

How can I color code my BNCs?

For rearTWIST BNC cable connectors, use anti-kink boot part number BST-BNC-*

Color coding:

0 - Black
1 - Brown
2 - Red
3 - Orange
4 - Yellow
5 - Green
6 - Blue
7 - Violet
8 - Grey
9 - White
CY Turquoise

For BNC chassis connectors with a "D" shaped housing use DSS-* or SCDP-*

Which BNC – stripper can I use for COAX cables?

Neutrik offers COAX stripping tools designed for specific BNC connectors. The cross reference list below helps to identify the required stripper.

CS-BNC-RT: Coax stripping tool for Neutrik rearTWIST BNC connectors.
CS-BNC-TCI: Coax cable stripper insert for cable O.D. ≤ 4.0 mm for Neutrik rearTWIST Tiny connector assembly (CS-BNC-RT required).
CS-BNC-LCS: Coax cable stripper for cable O.D. ≥8.0 mm for Neutrik rearTWIST BNC NBLC75BSX14 connector assemblies.
CS-BNC-LCV: Coax cable stripper for cable O.D. ≥8.0 mm for Neutrik rearTWIST BNC NBLC75BVZ17 connector assemblies.
What are BNC connectors and what are they used for?
BNC connectors are used with coaxial cables for the transmission of video signals.
Are Neutrik BNC connectors true 75 Ohm connectors and are they suitable for HDTV?

Neutrik BNCs are true 75 Ohm HDTV connectors.

With the introduction of HD signals the impedance of BNC connectors becames more important than ever. Every deviate impedance has a negative influence on the "return loss" / "VSWR" (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) which are important measurements for reflected signals in a transmission line. Especially on high frequencies – as they occur when transmitting HD signals an impedance mismatch results in a lot of return loss.

Neutrik's BNC connectors feature a true 75 Ω design that meet the stringent requirements of HDTV and sustain a consistent impedance at high frequencies up to 4.5 GHz. To achieve this result every Neutrik BNC connector has been adapted to the measurements of a small group of cables, this guarantees the best possible performance and a little return loss.

The higher the frequencies the more pronounced is the "skin effect", which means that the energy moves to the outside of the conductor. Therefore the plating of outer and center contact is more important than on audio connectors with low frequencies – both contacts of our BNC connectors are gold plated.

How important is shielding on a BNC connector?

In times of rising frequencies the connector shielding becomes to an important value in order to avoid EMI problems and crosstalking. The Neutrik BNCs take this fact into account and are equipped with an optimized ground contact design for maximum shielding effectiveness.

What can I do when my preferred coax cable isn’t on the cable reference list?

First, make sure that you are looking at the most recent cable reference list – this is always available on our website as we are constantly updating the cables that can be used with our BNC cable connectors. If you still cannot find your cable on the list contact your responsible Neutrik agent for further assistance. For large quantities (over 10,000 pcs) we will look into a new connector design for you – this would come with stipulations. Contact the factory for details.

Do I need special or new crimping tools?

No. We use standard crimp sizes for our BNC connectors and we meet the IEC 803 and MIL 22520 standards for HEX crimp.

Does Neutrik also offer 50 Ohm BNC connectors?

No, Neutrik currently offers true 75 Ohm BNC connectors exclusively.
